What does 'exact daily' mean versus 'total daily'?

"Exact" indicates the number of daily searches done with that specific word on the internet. For example if you search for golf on wordpot the exact daily number of searches is 6938. This number does not include the searches done that has the word golf in it for example "golf course" and "golf clubs" do not count towards this number.

"Total" searches on the other hand includes all searches done daily on the internet with the word "golf" in them.

You can use these numbers to see which words are more general terms than others. For example since golf has only 6938 exact searches but 696364 total searches then that makes golf a general term. So if you are trying to advertise for "used golf clubs", you should stay away from the term "golf" in your campaign.

What do these numbers mean?

Our search result numbers represent estimated total daily searches done across all search engines.

Where does wordpot.com collect the data?

We collect our data from a combination of the real time searches done on popular meta search engines (like Metacrawler and Dogpile) and results published by Google (zeitgeist), Yahoo and Msn.
We are doing this 24/7 and have been collecting data and building our database for a number of years. We then aggregate the results together to come up with the numbers that you see on the site.

Why do your numbers differ from what is shown on Google?

We gather real searches from multiple sources and approximate our results based on our data. Google does the same but they do not filter out automated bots.

For example if you search on Wordpot for the term 'travel malaysia' you get a 'Total Daily Vol' = 27 Which is aproximatly 810/month.

If you search for “travel malaysia” in the Google keyword tool and set the “Match Type” to exact then you will get aproximatly 480 searches for a month. If you set it to Phrase then you get 2400 searches.

So you can see that if you then include searches from other search engines and account for some sample error the results are not too different.

There are many automated robots, especially for sites such as travel websites that search on Google for different combinations of certain keywords and then click on a specific site. Usually they do this to show higher click through rate for their adwords campaigns so their cost per click would be lower. We filter most of these automated searches out. That is why our results differ from Google’s.

Here is a sample of some of the words that we have filtered out because they contain a website url in them (we have changed the actual website url):

"cheap business class travel business class travel Malaysia www.somewebsite.com"
"international travel agent international cheap travel Malaysia www.somewebsite.com"
"travel malaysia hotels lodging accommodation budget hotel www.somewebsite.com"
